The sources from ANI stated that ‘Char Dham Yatra’ commenced on 15th May and witnessed over 2 Lakh devotees hailing from different corners of the country reaching out to Uttarakhand.
The surge in the number of pilgrims
Addressing the scenario, Uttarakhand Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar informed the press conference. He shared that in the past 5 years, the number of pilgrims has increased at a greater pace. “Over the past five years, the number of pilgrims has surged from 3.4 million in 2019 to 5.6 million in 2023. If this trend persists, we anticipate that the figure could climb to 7-7.5 million in 2024. Given the influx of pilgrims this year, we urge everyone to exercise patience amidst the crowds. To manage the flow, we have designated several points along the Yatra route where devotees will be paused if crowd density increases,” said Abhinav Kumar.
Try to avoid travelling during peak times
The state authority has appealed people to keep the patience to reach out to Devbhoomi considerably to avoid any hassle and overbudening of the state’s infrastructure. It is crucial to consider the peak timing and avoid making plans during peak festivities in the next six months as overcrowded places may invite unfortunate events.
