Full list of Modi Cabinet 2024: After two complete terms during which the BJP held a majority on its own, Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is scheduled to take the oath of office on Sunday for a third consecutive term as the leader of a coalition government.
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister, achieved a milestone matched by 73-year-old Modi when he won the general elections in 1952, 1957, and 1962.
K Ram Mohan Naidu and Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, members of the Telugu Desam Party Lok Sabha from Andhra Pradesh, are expected to be sworn in as members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Union Cabinet on Sunday.
A post on X by former TDP MP Galla Jayadev claims that Naidu, a member of the Lok Sabha from Srikakula, will become a cabinet minister, while Pemmasani, a member of the legislature from Guntur, will become a minister of state.
Modi has maintained his position of authority, but the BJP surprised everyone by doing poorly in the Lok Sabha elections, losing three seats, from 303 to 240, well short of the 272 majority needed to win. Mamata Banerjee, the chief of the Trinamool Congress, declared that her party will not be present at the swearing-in ceremony, while the main opposition Congress stated last evening that its representatives had not yet received invitations.
To finalize their share of representation in the government, senior BJP leaders like Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, as well as party president J P Nadda, have been consulting with allies like N Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party, Nitish Kumar of JD(U), and Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena.
There's a belief that the BJP would retain powerhouse posts like home, finance, defense, and external affairs in addition to education and culture, two ministries with strong ideological ties, while its allies might secure five to eight cabinet positions.
While party leaders like Shah and Singh are viewed as locks to be included in the next Cabinet, other former chief ministers who were victorious in the Lok Sabha elections include Sarbananda Sonowal, Basavaraj Bommai, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The sources added that either Singh or Jha will be accommodated from the JD(U) quota. The allies who may form a member of the next administration are Ram Mohan Naidu of the TDP, Lalan Singh, Sanjay Jha and Ram Nath Thakur of the JD(U), and Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
